Joaquin Phoenix and PETA "Walk the Line"

How does one star in a movie about a man constantly clad in leather when you won't wear leather? If you're Joaquin Phoenix, you do it very carefully and with PETA's input.

Joaquin is a staunch supporter of PETA. He made their first vegan commercial (asking grocery store shoppers to spare turkeys at Thanksgiving) and posed for an anti-fur poster. He was also attended PETA’s 25th Anniversary Gala and Humanitarian Awards Show, where he accepted an award on behalf of friend and fellow vegan actor Casey Affleck.

But working on his new movie, Walk the Line, posed a special challenge for Joaquin. “He refused to wear anything made of leather,” a source told MSNBC.com. “So even Johnny Cash’s signature cowboy boots had to be approved by PETA.”
