Washington's "First Dog" raising funds for Katrina's pet victims
Living in the Washington governor's mansion isn't going to Franz's head--he's making the most of this celebrity limelight to advance his own "pet causes."
Franz is the pet of Gov. Christine Gregoire. In Franz's first year as "First Dog," he's hit the road for public appearances at school assemblies and parades and has launched his own Web page. And now, there's a first dog wine label. Proceeds from the privately selected Washington Merlot, bottled by St. Hilaire Cellars in the Yakima area, are going to help pets impacted by Hurricane Katrina.
