Diane Keaton wants you to take a pet "Home 4 the Holidays"
Diane Keaton is again adding her voice and celebrity status to a very fine effort: “Home 4 the Holidays.” The project is an annual campaign encouraging adoption of animals during the holidays.
This year's adoption drive takes place from Nov. 7 through Jan. 2, 2006, and organizers hope to involve 2,000 animal shelters nationwide. Last year's Home 4 the Holidays surpassed its goal of 300,000 adoptions. The 2004 campaign helped save the lives of 163,286 dogs, 143,445 cats and 6,392 other pets.
Diane reminds us that, "The need has never been greater with pets still seeking homes after evacuating from hurricane-affected areas." As a regular supporter of the cause, she adds, "Since becoming involved in 2001, I've watched it grow to the point where 313,000 orphaned pets found homes during last year's campaign. This is a tremendous achievement, but we aren't done yet, since we expect 2005 to be the biggest year ever."
Details about the 2005 campaign are scarce on the “Home 4 the Holidays” site, but you can read more about it here.
In an interesting twist, the sponsor of this annual campaign--which hopes to make its one millionth match this year--is Iams. Yes, the same Iams that PETA and Anna Nicole Smith are boycotting. It sure is a complicated world, isn't it? You just don't know who to trust. Wouldn't it be much easier if things were clear and simple? Perhaps Anna Nicole and Diane could settle the Iams debate with a cage match--then we'd know whether to put Iams into the "Good" or "Bad" category.
If Anna Nicole and Diane happen to read this blog and wish to lay down the gauntlet for the grudge match, we here at Hollywood & Celebrity Pet News would be more than happy to referee the match. We're selfless that way.
