Obituary: Washington's "First Dog," Franz
Very sad news to report: Franz, the "First Dog" of the state of Washington, was struck by a car and killed on Sunday.
We first reported about Franz back on January 1, 2006. Franz was an outgoing pooch with a big heart who visited schools, made appearances, and even had his own Web site. Franz's name graced a Washington wine with proceeds from the sales going to pets impacted by Katrina.
On Sunday Franz's owner, Washington Governor Chris Gregoire, was in Detroit cheering on her team at the Super Bowl while Franz was in the care of friends. He apparently escaped and was killed in an accident.
Our sympathies go to the Gregoire and all the Washingtonians who loved their "First Dog."
