Jodie Foster's dog is a bitch

Jodie Foster doesn't like stereotyping. And her dog is a bitch. That's what it is to be learned from an interview published on Canada.com.

Jodie was asked if her new movie, Inside Man, portrays women in control as "bitches."

She responded: "I love my dog, and that’s what she is, too!"

Jodie went on to say that she is drawn to roles that could be filled by either a man or woman, and that the unflattering image society has of controlling women is just "big stereotype."

You can read much more about Jodie on Canada.com.

Kristin Davis dedicating herself to dogs

Kristin Davis was, in our opinion, the sexiest of the crew on Sex and the City, which is why we've been surprised at her low profile since the series ended. So, what's she been up?

Charlotte (as we all really know her) was anxious to find the right film, and while The Shaggy Dog may seem an odd vehicle for her return to the big screen, she says it was the right choice for several different reasons. Kristin told the Belfast Telegraph, "I really wanted to make the film because I love dogs and I love comedy, and I'm happy that I can take my grandmother Flossie to this film. She is adorable and refuses to say the title of the show I used to be on, and of course she wouldn't watch it, so it's really nice that I can say: 'Let's take grandma to the movies.'"

And now that her latest film is released, what is Kristin doing? Loving her new pets! "My puppies have taken over my life. I've just adopted a family of four dogs from a pet rescue centre and they are a handful, but they really make me happy."

By the way, you men out there may want to take note: dogs are nice, but Kristin's biological clock is ticking. "If the right guy comes along I would love a baby."

Tori Spelling's pug to appear on VH1 show

Want to know what it's like to be rich, famous, and canine? Then turn into VH1's new show, so noTORIous.

The show is about being Tori Spelling, or at least a reasonable facsimile thereof. Tori is sending up her image as a spoiled, rich girl by starring as... a spoiled rich girl.

Loni Anderson stars as Spelling's on-screen mother, Kiki, but the part of Tori's dog will be played by Tori's real dog, pug Mimi La Rue. She is billed as "the most fashionable (and indolent) pug west of the Mississippi." (Indolent? Hold on a sec while I get my dictionary.)

Humphrey, Britian's most famous cat, passes

The most famous cat in the UK has died. Humphrey, a stray cat who wandered into the official residence of the prime minister in 1989, became the official designated mouser of No. 10 Downing Street. But he was not just famous for where he lived but also for being involved in several scandals. In 1994 the government had to issue an official denial after the cat was accused of killing a family of robins.

Then in 1997, just months after Tony Blair was elected, Humphrey disappeared. The opposition party took to accusing Blair of killing the cat because his wife didn't like felines. "Humphrey is now a missing person. Unless I hear from him or he makes a public appearance, I suspect he has been shot," said one politician.

The government was forced to arrange for press photos to prove Humphrey was still alive, saying he had gone to live with a civil servant to be treated for illness. Eventually all decided to leave the cat live in peace, which he did until passing at the age of 18.

Dogs get their own ritzy club in LA: SkyBARK on March 25

If you and your pooch are in LA on 3/25, here's a date to put in your PDA: PETaPOTTY and Los Angeles gallery Hanger 1018 will launch the first ever pet-friendly nightlife with the introduction of SkyBARK.

SkyBARK is Downtown L.A.’s newest spot to relax and have cocktails along with your dogs. The location is phenomenal with a large rooftop deck with beautiful views of the L.A. skyline, a large rooftop doggy night-care area equipped with PETaPOTTYs for your dogs’ bathroom needs, and Hangar 1018’s art gallery!

The event’s presale tickets can be purchased by calling 213-891-1722, or you can purchase tickets online at skybark.com. Tickets are $20 per person and $10 per dog in advance, increasing to $30 per person and $15 per dog at the door. Proceeds go to New Leash on Life, a local rescue that has saved thousands of dogs from being euthanized at local shelters.

I'd try to go, but I suspect my pet is hip enough to get into SkyBARK while I sadly am not.

Dog and Lion living in sin

Okay, there are no celebrities in this story, but I couldn't help but post it for your reading pleasure.

Dogs and lions living together!?! What's this world coming to? Before you know it, George HW Bush and Bill Clinton will be best buddies!

In what sounds like a plot for an upcoming Disney movie, an unlikely couple have been living together for four years in a cage in a Seoul zoo. Lioness 'Soonee' and dog 'Tangchil', a South Korean traditional breed known as a Jindo, have lived together since 2002.

You have to admit, they make a cute couple!

Cindy Adams and dogs promote book

Several years ago, Cindy Adams made a big splash with her book, The Gift of Jazzy. The book was about how a special Yorkshire terrier helped her recover following her husband's death.

Cindy now has a new book out, Living a Dog's Life: Jazzy, Juicy, and Me, that continues her story following the loss of Jazzy. Now living with two Yorkshires, Cindy finds that the love of her pets is priceless.

The new book is a big hit among her celeb friends. Bill Maher said, "In this book you feel the passion of someone pouring forth all the love in her heart for that amazing wonder of nature, the dog." And Liza Minnelli raved, “For anyone who loves dogs, this book is a must read, an absolute joy.”

Cindy, Jazzy Jr., and Juicy recently made a visit to the Manhattan Barnes & Noble to sign some books. Open All Night has some pix from the event.

Elayne Boosler helps animals

Elayne Boosler was always one of my favorite comedians--really funny, daring, and not afraid to wade into a controversial topic.

She's as funny as ever, but now she's being humorous with a purpose--she's helping to raise funds for a pet charity she founded named Tails of Joy. The not-for-profit organization wants to make the world better for animals and their people. They do this by raise raising funds for the smallest, neediest rescues all across the country.

Elayne lives with a black Labrador named Wiley, and the spirit of her beloved boxer dog Petey, who "she knows would approve of her new boxer dog Shnuffy."

To date Tails of Joy has helped fund over fifty rescue organizations nationwide and been a high profile and effective advocate in cruelty cases and humane law issues. If you care to help out, check out www.tailsofjoy.net.

Bunny support asked for in Hollywood divorce

Can you imagine the stories you could hear from Hollywood divorce attorneys?

Well, wonder no more, for there's an entertaining article about celebrity divorce on LATimes.com. High-profile celebrity divorce lawyer Dennis Wasser has become involved in the ongoing federal investigation of Hollywood private eye Anthony Pellicano. Pellicano is facing charges of wiretapping and witness intimidation, and it's possible Wasser may be part of the scandalous case.

In any event, the article gives a few juicy details about Divorce Hollywood Style, and my favorite is this: In 2002, Lisa Bonder Kerkorian sued her ex-husband, movie mogul Kirk Kerkorian. She asked $320,000 a month in child support for her 4-year-old daughter Kira. I say if he's got it, she may as well go for it--but honestly, how could one possibly spend that much money every month! Here's how: her child support claim included $144,000 a month for travel, $14,000 for parties and play dates, and $5,900 monthly to eat out (which comes to 2.73 Big Mac's every hour of every day for the month.)

Best of all, it included $436 for the care of her daughter's pet rabbit! Apparently, Kerkorian's bunny eats better than I do.

Hollywood Dog Nominated for Best Screenwriting?

Hollywood pet trivia:

True or False: A dog has been nominated for for an Oscar for Best Screenwriting?

Believe it or not, the answer is TRUE!

Robert Towne is one of Hollywood's most well-known writers, having authored scripts for movies such as Chinatown, Shampoo, Bonnie and Clyde, Heaven Can Wait (an old favorite of ours!), and Mission Impossible. But Robert's dog is also an honored screenwriter, as well.

After working for years on a script for 1984's Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, he grew dissatisfied with the production and decided to credit his dog, P.H. Vazak, with the script. When Greystoke was nominated for an Oscar for screenwriting, Vazak became the first dog to receive an Oscar nod for writing.

Alas, Vazak did not win, so we'll never know who he would've thanked whose butt he would've sniffed on the way to the podium.

You can learn more about Robert on Hollywood.com.

Ozzy's pets BARF

Apparently Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne think their pets are packing on a few pounds, and they have just the answer: BARF.

No, it's not what you think, unless you are already familiar with Biologically Appropriate Raw Food. The all-natural, hormone-free food is free from the grain-based kibble that's usually found in store-bought pet food and consists of finely ground bones, which are said to be full of minerals. (Yum, finely ground bones.)

Seriously, we understand this diet can be great for pets, but it takes some knowledge and commitment before you begin your pet's raw good diet. You can learn more about Ozzy and Sharon's pets on Ozzyhead.com, or about BARF on BARFWorld.com. (You probably think we're joking, but we're not--the site is really BARFWorld.com.)

Singer Joss Stone and professional NASCAR driver Greg Biffle announced their 2006 Tour for Life, which will stop in more than 20 U.S. cities to help save pets across America. The tour is sponsored by the North Shore Animal League America, the largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization in the world.

Three days left to get your celeb dog tags

To help raise funds and promote the Pedigree Adoption Drive, Ebay and Pedigree are offering one-of-a-kind dogtags designed by celebrities. But you have to act quickly--there's only three days left!

The Pedigree Adoption Drive is an educational and fundraising campaign with a mission to help find loving homes for millions of homeless dogs, as well as provide support to the thousands of animal shelters and breed rescue organizations nationwide that need help.

The tags are being auctioned on eBay now through March 16 at www.ebay.com/pedigree , with proceeds to benefit the American Humane Association, the nation's leading organization dedicated to animal protection.

Poor Yoanna House (2005 winner of America's Next Top Model). Her dog tag is going for a measly $25 right now. And Tia Carrere's is also going for $25. But, if you want the dog tag of a desparate housewife, you'll have to shell out more--Nicollette Sheridan's Dog Tag is going for $100.

Melissa Joan Hart and dog in picture with two other family members

Melissa Joan Hart appeared in a picture in People along with her husband, Mark Wilkerson, and new baby boy, Mason Walter. While I have nothing against hubbies and babies, the cutest thing in this picture (aside from MJH) is clearly her pooch, Copper!

Mariah Carey walks her dog

Okay, this is not exciting "news," but since we love Mariah Carey for loving her dog, here is a shot of the diva and her pooch. You can see more pictures on A Socialite's Life. (The site reveals the shocking news that Mariah loves--gasp!--sweets in her dressing room before performances.)

Minnesota dog goes Hollywood in Shaggy remake

Whether or not you've seen the remake, The Shaggy Dog, you've certainly seen the ads on TV. Ever wonder who the dog is and where he or she came from? (Or am I the only one who wonders about such things?)

Cole is the son of a show champion and four-legged thespian who stole the show in a community theater version of Annie. His dad is ready for celebrity status with a name that requires explanation. Just like Ralph Fiennes (pronounced "Rafe Fines") or S. Epatha Merkerson (pronounced "e-Pay-tha"), the Cole's father's name is Owain (pronounced Owen.)

Cole was so capable, that unlike other dog movies where a whole bunch of dog actors are needed because each does a single thing very well, Cole did most of his own work. "He's a smart, eager to learn, eager to perform type of dog," said Jane Tadsen, the human companion of Cole's dad.

So, where is Cole's father, Owain, while his son is living the high life in Hollywood? Back on the farm in Green Isle, MN looking after Cole's brothers and sisters.

Sienna Miller returns Jude's Dogs

The on-again, off-again, on-again relationship between Sienna Miller and Jude Law is apparently off again. And sadly, the puppies are caught in the middle.

The Celebrity Dog Blog reports that Sienna gave her two pooches back to Jude--who she split from last month--because she’s “too busy” to care for them. Jude's nanny reportedly found Sienna with Porgy and Bess, who the couple once nicknamed their “babies,” on the doorstep of Jude’s swanky London home.

Elton John and pooch host the Oscar party or all Oscar parties

Through all of Elton John's highs and lows, one thing has remained a constant for several years: The place to be after the last Academy Award is announced is Elton's AIDS Foundation Oscar party. This year, Elton, his new spouse David Furnish, and their tiny dog were hosts for the annual soiree.

Before the event, Elton was interviewed as he sat beside his beloved pet dog. He spoke about the big plans for the evening, including auctioning off the piano on which he and John Legend would perform. "It's nonstop until two in the morning," Elton said.

The event drew celebs including Mamie Van Doren, Axl Rose, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, Nicole Richie, Prince, Carmen Electra, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ben Stiller, Lindsay Lohan, Sharon Stone, Babyface, Alyssa Milano, Jenna Elfman, Tim Allen, Donatella Versace, and Olympians Sasha Cohen, Apolo Anton Ohno, and Shaun White. Paris Hilton even showed up, but was apparently party hopping without her puppy.

No word on when Elton's pooch left the party, but it's a safe bet be was rubbing paws with plenty of Oscar nominees until the wee hours.

Barry Diller saves his dog at pre-Oscar bash

One moment movie mogul Barry Diller is hosting a pre-Oscar picnic lunch with designer Diane von Furstenberg, and the next moment he's going all Harrison Ford to save his pet dog.

Shannon, Barry's beloved Jack Russell terrier, somehow found her way onto the Spanish-tile roof of the Diller-von Furstenberg hacienda. The dog proceeded to run back and forth perilously close to the edge, in view of the concernerd guests including Shirley MacLaine, Joan Collins, and Diana Ross.

Barry swung into super hero mode by luring his pooch to safety on the roof-deck.

"She's a Connecticut dog," Barry told the New York Daily News. "That's the first time she's ever done that."

What does that mean--"She's a Connecticut dog"? Do dogs in that state like to climb out on roofs? Who knows, we're just glad Shannon is safe and sound!

Philip Seymour Hoffman ALMOST barked his Oscar acceptance speech

A couple days before the Academy Awards, we shared news that Philip Seymour Hoffman may actually bark like a dog should he win the Best Actor honors at Sunday night's event. Well he won, but Philip didn't bark. (Were you as disappointed as I was?)

He claims he gave it serious consideration! Speaking backstage, Philip confessed he thought for a moment about barking, but he didn’t get the bark out.

“You know, I literally lost all control of my bowels up there,” he said. “I couldn’t think. I was swimming in my head. So I was lucky to get out what I got out.”

Philip has been one of my favorite under-appreciated actors since his marvelous performance in Boogie Nights and I am so pleased he won for Capote, so although I don't mean to be overly critical, perhaps someone can suggest he read the definition of the word "literally." I am quite sure he did not "literally" lose control of his bowels. That would've been gross, but oddly might've been even more appropriate had he barked like a dog.

Could it be that the The Shaggy Dog" might actually be good?!?!

I have absolutely nothing against Tim Allen, the original The Shaggy Dog, or Disney--in fact, I like all three! And when I first heard about the film, I had high hopes this might be a pet-themed movie worth seeing. But after seeing the gut-wrenchingly horrible trailer for the upcoming remake The Shaggy Dog, I was prepared for the worst.

Have you seen the trailer? What self-respecting writer or director would think anyone would find it humorous (much less actually funny) that a little old lady ends up hanging from a tree after being run into by a human acting like a dog? When a trailer insults my intelligence, I don't hold much hope for the movie itself (and believe me, it's actually quite difficult to insult my intelligence!)

So I was pleasantly surprised when the first review I came across was actually quite positive about The Shaggy Dog. Reuters says "Allen is at his comic best" and that the flick is a "fast-moving Walt Disney Co. comedy that manages to sail past many of the cliches usually found in this genre."

Read more on Reuters.com. And watch for The Shaggy Dog at a theater near you starting March 10th.

Pay your respects to Scarlett Johansson's pet fish

In an article that describes how you and I--the commonfolk--can "do" L.A. like a star, Scarlett Johansson discusses how she sold her California mansion to move into the world-famous Chateau Marmont. The hotel is rich with history (John Belushi died in one of the bungalows) and continues to be rich with celebs, who treat the Sunset Boulevard landmark like their home away from home.

How much like home is the Chateau Marmont to Scarlet? You can pay respects to her pet goldfish at the hotel--Scarlet buried her deceased goldfish in the hotel garden.

You can usually visit Scarlet's goldfish anytime, but not during Oscar week! Around award time, rooms go for no less than $435 and you have to know the right people to get past security. (Sadly, I am not among the right people to know.) Visit any other time, and the Chateau Marmont is a bargain at $335. That squeezes my budget, but it's worth it--lounge in the lobby and you may see Jessica Simpson, Jude Law, Keira Knightley, or Brad Pitt.

Will Philip Seymour Hoffman bark on Oscar night?

So, admit it--you were thinking of skipping the Academy Award telecast, weren't you? The show always gets a little long and no one outside of the LA City limits really cares who wins the award for Best Sound Editing With One Hand Tied Behind Back. (And yes, we feel badly for not caring, since it takes many talented people to bring a film to the screen.)

So, here's a reason to watch: If Philip Seymour Hoffman wins for his amazing portrayal of Truman Capote, he may bark like a dog. Seriously, it's very possible his acceptance speech would be understandable to dogs but not humans.

Philip recently told David Letterman that he and his "Capote" director and school-age friend Bennett Miller made a pact when they were teenagers that the first person to win an Oscar would have to bark his acceptance speech like a dog until someone yanks him from the stage.

Here's hoping he keeps his promise.

Celeb pooch Coal does Detriot

Coal, the star of the movie "The Shaggy Dog," opening Monday, will be top dog at the 96th/97th Detroit Kennel Club Dog Show, March 18th and 19th at the Cobo Center in Detroit. And when Coal visits Detroit, where does he stay? The newly renovated Hotel Pontchartrain.

Thanks to the hotel's new manager, Todd Roesler, who is passionate about his own pedigreed pup, Beauregard, the Pontch is welcoming many doggie visitors. The hotel will be providing a supply of doggy "doo-doo" bags, bowls, treats, mats and other accessories for its canine guests and their owners.

Heather and Paul McCartney ask for your help to end the seal hunt

Heather and Sir Paul McCartney are continuing their fight to prevent animal cruelty, and they're asking for your assistance.

The two celebs traveled to the ice floes off Canada's East Coast to observe newborn harp seal pups just weeks before they will be clubbed and shot to death for their fur.

Some people claim that walking up to a baby mammal with a big club and then striking it repeatedly until it is dead is a sport. I love sports, and I know a sport when I see one, and this annual "hunt" is nothing but cruelty. The fact that the Canadian government permits the hunt is all the excuse that is needed for a bunch of people to brutalize and torture baby seals every year.

"Previous Canadian governments have allowed this heartbreaking hunt to continue despite the fact that the majority of its citizens – as well as those in Europe and America - are opposed to it," the McCartneys said in a joint statement. "We have complete faith that Prime Minister Harper will take swift and decisive action to end the slaughter of these defenseless seal pups for good."

They're asking you to get in the act, and you can do so very easily--it's all just a click away! You can e-mail the new Prime Minister of Canada from the Web site of the Humane Society of the United States. If you do this, and if this ugly practice is finally ended, you can take pride in being part of the effort that ends the seal "hunt"

Click here to complete a form that will be sent to the Canadian Prime Minister, calling on him to end the seal "hunt": https://community.hsus.org/campaign/harper_protectseals

Denise Richards turns to the Dog Whisperer

Maybe if Denise Richards had called Cesar Millan (A/K/A The Dog Whisperer) last year, he could've whispered a few things to her dog husband, Charlie Sheen. I mean really, who treats a woman as beautiful and kind as Denise that way?!?

No, Denise didn't ask Cesar to whisper to Charlie; this time, she needed help with her three energetic dogs, Boston terrier Lucy, French bulldog Hank and overly aggressive pug Betty. The dogs are wreaking havoc in her household, so she called in the expert.

Cesar doesn't mince words: "It was chaos." He blames a lack of discipline and exercise for the dogs' unruly behavior, along with Richards' split from Charlie.

He explains, "Dogs are like kids. If parents are tense, they will sense it." After an afternoon training session, Millan was able to restore order to the frazzled home.

Paris and Tinkerbell will attend your event for $2,000

Want Paris and Tinkerbell to add a little sparkle to your next soiree? The real pair probably come pretty expensive, but celebrity lookalike Natalie Reid and her dog can be had for $2,000. Natalie recently got celeb treatment at New York Fashion Week when she showed up in a short dress with dark sunglasses and a bejeweled cell phone, fooling paparazzi and scoring a front row seat at the Nicole Miller fashion show next to David Lee Roth.

The 21-year-old aspiring actress claims it's easy to slip into Paris' shoes: "I just put on something really cute and put on some makeup. It's so easy," Natalie told The Associated Press after the event, clutching her pet Chihuahua. "I don't study her at all. I just feed off other peoples vibes."

If it's called imPERSONating to act like Paris, is it considered imDOGating for Natalie's pooch to portray Tinkerbell? (Yeah, that's pretty stupid, but I was just not creative enough to come up with a pithy comment on this article.)
